What To Do If Your Child Have Cerebral Palsy

Reports published indicate that out of 323 kids, one suffers Cerebral Palsy. The family having a patient here must empathize and support them. Here are things to know about living with the Cerebral Palsy.

First, the CP impairs movement abilities, muscle tones or motor skills. The patient has difficulties moving and coordination. The victims have other body functions like eating habits, breathing, bladder or bowel movement. In many cases, this comes before, after birth or after three to five years.

The disorder might be classified as spastic, and it means muscle stiffness that makes the movement harder. Your child might have the Dyskinetic CP that causes uncontrolled movement. It can manifest as Ataxic disorders that affect the body ability to balance. There is no known for this disorder, and in some case, the symptoms will not worsen.

You must understand the main cause of this disorder such as untreated jaundice after birth, stroke after birth or while a child is in womb or infections when pregnant. A child gets affected because of other diseases when a woman is pregnant, suffering trauma during birth, or having diseases during infancy or early childhood.

If your child is affected, you must give more attention to maintain a healthy, fulfilling and satisfying life. The victims face daily struggle, with different experiences seen. The victims show common issues such as mobility difficulties which are severe from one person to the next.

The child will show trouble when communicating with others. The patient ends up spending more time receiving treatment from a speech therapist to aid in communication.

Another sign for CP patient is difficulties feeding. They need help to feed or face dietary restrictions.

In some instances, the patient has problems sleeping as they complain of pain when they take a nap in a given position or suffer insomnia. In addition to this, the daily hygiene becomes an issue as they cannot do the teeth brushing and showering normally. The family will have to help them in hygiene duties or get to an occupational therapist.

The learning at school becomes an issue because of cognitive disabilities. Because of the problems seen, the victim needs special attention to learn independently and develop.

You must help the person living with Cerebral Palsy by giving them the support and love needed. Your presence and accepting them as they are is a good thing. You can do more research and get an insight into proper ways to help the victims. You need to research and know your role to a CP patient. Once you have details, it becomes easier to give help. Your role is to assist, encourage their independence and advocate their course to improve their life.
